Get creative with your name badge.
I current use a badge I created that has one of my photographs on it, with my name and occupation over the photo. It works great, and people instantly see a sample of my work.
I also used to use a LED name badge. The letters were made of red LED lights, and I had it scroll. It would show my name, then scroll and say Photographer. The lights were pretty bright, and people would often walk across a large conference room to see what bright, red, moving light thing was on my chest. It was a great icebreaker.
